Domain Name Registrars are regulated then?
We are ICANN accredited which means effectively we are regulated by the body that runs the net. Numerous checks are made for the unlikely event of business failure and they ensure all our data is backed up centrally (Escrow) so as not to cause issues for our customers in the event of business failure. We are regularly monitored and audited by them. We are accountable to them and they can close our business in an instant if we aren't compliant.
Many Domain Name registrars are simply Resellers, they buy domains through a 3rd party ICANN accredited registrar at wholesale prices to then sell on. Using an ICANN accredited registrar directly cuts out this reseller and leaves you safe in the knowledge that we are at the top of the registration tree.
