Web Hosting Choice

Choosing a web host is an important step towards establishing an online presence for your business. With thousands of hosts to choose from, here are a few tips about what to look out for.

Support: If you’re a newcomer to website management, it’s best to find a host that offers telephone as well as email support. If you’re having difficulties, you’ll be grateful for being able to speak to a real person. If you’re more experienced, you might be happy to sacrifice call centre support for lower prices.

Storage Space: Most sites require less than 30MB. If your site is larger than that, it could be because of overlarge image files. An image management program like Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro should be able to help you cut that down.

Bandwidth: Busy sites need more bandwidth. It’s better to pay for a higher bandwidth package now than fork out for excess charges later on.

Price: You shouldn’t need to pay more than about £70/year for shared hosting. If you’re quoted more than that, go elsewhere.
