Dynamic Pages and Search Engine Optimisation

Dynamic pages are web pages which deliver content from a database to a website. The advantage is that the database can be updated constantly, sometimes by visitors to the website, and this new content can be displayed instantly. However, Google and other search engines warn web designers that, whilst search engine spiders do index dynamic pages, they can be overwhelmed by them and therefore the number of these pages that they index is limited.

This is worth taking into consideration if you are planning on using dynamic pages in your site. There are various ways to get dynamic pages indexed, but it is probably best to avoid a dynamic home page, as this will make your site particularly difficult to index. For larger sites, it is possible to change the syntax of a dynamic page so that it appears to be static. Search engines are always improving their indexing algorithms, however, so there is no need to rule out dynamic pages completely. Just make sure that you have plenty of good quality keyword-rich static content on your site as well, in order to please the Googlebot.
