Hosting: Money-Back Guarantees
Many hosting companies now offer money-back guarantees. These come in various flavours, and it is worth checking out precisely what you are getting.
A guarantee makes buying hosting, or anything else, for that matter, a much less risky business. The best kind of guarantee is the "no questions asked" variety. If your hosting company offers this sort of guarantee, you can potentially get your money back even if you just decide that another host offers a better deal. Many companies avoid guarantees like these, though, because it is so easy to take advantage of them. The next best thing is "for any complaint" guarantees. You have to give some reason for your decision to ask for your money back, but it doesn’t matter what the reason is. The ones to be more careful of are the guarantees which specify for which reasons they will offer a refund. It’s pretty easy for a company to worm their way out of giving a refund because of a loophole or two in the details of their guarantee, so be careful.
If you can’t find a company that offers a no-questions or any-complaint money-back guarantee, don’t worry too much. Even if they don’t have a guarantee at all, they’ll still have to give you your money back if their service is not as described – the law sees to that. Although a guarantee is nice, if you are paying per month (which I would recommend) you don’t have too much to lose, and things like excellent standards of customer service, and reliability, are really more valuable things to look for than flashy guarantees.
