Remote Administration
Remote administration – controlling computers from remote locations – can be extremely useful for administrating computers over a network or the internet.
Remote administration can be used to perform all sorts of tasks. It gives the administrator full control of a remote computer – they are able to shut it down, change its registry settings, and install software. In effect, remote administration tools allow the administrator to use a remote computer just as if they were sitting in front of it.
One use of remote administration tools is to supervise or assist other users without having to be physically present. If someone on a network is having difficulty, the administrator can take control and take them through the necessary steps to solve the problem. It can also be used to monitor others' behaviour on a network.
Some mobile devices also feature limited remote administration tools.
There are several remote administration packages available, including Radmin and Scriptlogic's Desktop Authority.
