Building a Successful Website

Everyone wants a successful website, and there are a few things you can do to improve your chances of being a success on the web.

Choose Your Keywords

Choose which keywords you need to target. Which words and phrases are most likely to bring targeted traffic to your site? Choose simple but reasonably specific terms. Your choice needs to reflect what you think it’s likely your target audience will type into a search engine. Then try to insert these keywords and phrases into your copy.

Tags and Headings

Use your keywords in your page title, description and keyword tags. Also try using them in headings one, two and three.

Directories

Submit your site to leading directories, including Yahoo!, Business.com and so on. There’s no need to submit to search engines; just let them find you by submitting to directories and filling your site with relevant content.

Links, Forums and Blogs

Swap links with the webmasters of relevant sites. Make sure they use relevant keywords in the anchor text of these links.

There are thousands of relevant forums on the web which you can get involved with and post links to your site. These are also good places to find other with whom to exchange links. Also, it might be worth starting a blog with links to your site and perhaps some of your reciprocal links (rather than cluttering up your own site with links to other people’s pages).
