Web Hosting - How do I know my files are secure?

So you have bought your domain through Domainmonster.com. You’ve got a hosting package from a different hosting provider and you’re ready to go live! Then, at the crucial moment, the hosting servers fail and you lose everything. How could this happen? Well in some cases due to lack of care by hosting providers to protect your data! Here at Domainmonster.com we’re different. We provide great value web hosting packages with a number of protective strategies to ensure your data is both secure and safe from damage.

We use a shared hosting environment which is load balanced. This means that the workload from our hosting systems is spread across a number of different servers. This creates an extremely fast environment for you to manage your web hosting. However the great advantage from a security point of view is that your data always sits in multiple redundant locations on our infrastructure at any one time. This makes sure that your web hosting is always safe. We operate three data centres in three diverse locations. Each one of those data centres is fully redundant within itself. First class physical and technical security, fire prevention and remedy, redundant power supplies and redundant Tier 1 IP Transit.

All data held on the Domainmonster.com web hosting architecture is additionally stored in RAID 1 format. Every disk identically mirrored with no loss of read/write speed. Very few web hosts offer this additional piece of mind, not only due to the high cost, but also due to the setup involved. Raid 1 protection means that all your data uploaded to your hosting on Domainmonster.com is instantly stored in a mirror drive. If the drive fails that your data is being hosted on, the majority of hosts would have to say, sorry there’s nothing we can do, please start your site again from your own backup! If a drive fails with Domainmonster.com you wouldn’t notice any degradation in performance, our Network Operations Team would be alerted and the failed drive replaced immediately to continue real time redundancy at disk level. This reduces the chance of data loss in the event of drive failure to nearly nil.

Just to ensure that your data cannot be lost under any circumstances, Domainmonster.com also take daily backups of each web hosting account to tape. These tapes are then removed from our primary locations and stored in a secure, off-site environment daily. If RAID was to fail, all our hardware to fail and frankly three data centres attacked by missiles in some form of apocalyptic meltdown. Then we would still have your data backed up and ready to restore at a fourth location; probably at this point on the planet Mars!
