Why You Shouldn't be Using FrontPage

Microsoft FrontPage is a popular WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web design package. Unfortunately, there are certain problems with FrontPage which you should bear in mind if you are considering creating your website using this software.

- All versions of FrontPage prior to FrontPage 2003 tend to create non-validating html (so the pages the software produced are only optimised for Microsoft Internet Explorer). FrontPage 2003 is now capable of creating validated xhtml.

- FrontPage is no longer being developed by Microsoft. It has been replaced by the more standards-compliant Expression Web, aimed at professional web designers.

- If you have a FrontPage website, it will need to be hosted on a server which features the correct FrontPage extensions. This means paying for hosting on a server with a Windows (rather than Unix) hosting platform, which is considerably more expensive, as well as paying for the additional service of the extensions themselves.

Many professional designers will suggest that if you wish to use a WYSIWYG web design package, Dreamweaver is the best choice. Alternatively, if you have the time, learn html and design your page yourself.
