.XXX Domains Receive 900,000 Expressions of Interest
With the .XXX launch drawing ever nearer the ICM registry have announced that they have received almost 900,000 expressions of interest for their new TLD! Here at Domainmonster we’re currently on countdown, and with only 50 days until launch we are consistently receiving more and more applications each day.
The ICM Registry have also announced that due to popular demand, the Sunrise Period has now been extended to allow all parties who have expressed interest pre-launch to submit their applications. The Sunrise period gives applicants the right to apply for a .XXX domain if they have an existing trademark, adult or otherwise, or if they have an existing adult domain. Following the extension the Sunrise Period is now set to run for 50 days, commencing on the 7th September.
The next stage of the launch will be the Landrush Period which will run for 18 days. This will allow members of the adult community access to premium domain names with no prerequisite to hold a valid trademark or existing domain name.
The actual date of General Availability going live is set to be the 6th December 2011, where remaining domains are allocated on a first come, first served basis. This is where speed really is of the essence! At Domainmonster we are only taking one application per name at General Availability, and the stage is entirely no win no fee. So if you feel like putting our past launch success to the test it won’t cost you a penny unless we secure you the name you want!
The pre-reservation period at the registry has now closed, with all further applications being handled by the ICANN accredited registrars who are offering the .XXX domain type.
The simple fact is the earlier you place your application, the best chance you have to secure your chosen domain, and with less than two months to go there’s no time like the present! We’re seeing applications from all types of potential registrants, from members of the adult community to people who are simply keen to protect their brands.
