DMOZ - Open Directory
DMOZ (otherwise known as the Open Directory Project) is a huge online directory which is edited by volunteers. Submission to DMOZ is free for both profit-making and not-for-profit websites. However, getting a listing is a complex process, as the editors are very rigorous, and can take several months.
DMOZ differs from other directories in that its content is syndicated by other websites, such as Google. This means that a listing in the DMOZ directory can result in many back links to your website, and hence increase your link popularity.
