Frames are HTML elements which allow multiple independent sections to be displayed in one web page. Each frame is built as a separate HTML file, with a
master file which manages the organisation and interaction of the frames. By using multiple frames (or sub-frames), web pages may be generated with many interacting documents. Unfortunately, most search engines experience problems with indexing framed websites; they often only index the
top frame of a page, meaning that most of the content is not indexed. Cloaked web forwarding is one example of frame deployment.
Fortunately, framed websites have become very unpopular among web designers, as most of the same effects can be achieved using CSS.
