Spiders

Spiders (sometimes also known as robots or bots) are software programs used by search engines to index web pages. This is done by crawling through web pages by following links, and compiling a database of the content of these pages. Once a page has been crawled, unless it is blacklisted by the search engine for some reason, it will be included in the search engine listings, and will appear in SERPs when users search for relevant keyphrases.
