.me a brief history

Shortly after gaining independence in June 2006, the ISO 3165 Maintenance Agency assigned the ME country code to Montenegro. An application was submitted to IANA for delegation of the .me Top Level Domain in December 2006 and was approved in September 2007. Realising the potential appeal of the .me domain, it was decided by the Government of Montenegro that it should be operated as a generic name space and the Registration Agent contract for this was awarded to doMEn, d.o.o.
