Anyone can apply for a .me domain name, no trademarks are required and no country restrictions are in place.
What are the registration terms for domains registered during the Landrush period?
Landrush domains may be registered for a term of a minimum of two years, and a maximum of ten years.
What are the Landrush restrictions?
The .me registry has a policy that registrations by proxy, or employing proxy registration contact data, are NOT allowed during the Sunrise Period or the Landrush period. A registration by proxy or proxy registration during either of these periods will be seen as a material breach of the Registry-Registrar Agreement.
How will Landrush names be awarded?
Via auction. During the Landrush period, different parties may submit applications for the same domain name. (In other words, it is not a first-come-first-served process.) At the end of Landrush, the applications will be examined. If there is only one application for a domain name, the domain name will be awarded to that applicant. If two or more parties apply for a domain name, those parties will enter an auction for the domain name. The domain name will be allocated to the auction winner.
How and when will Landrush billing take place?
All payments for Landrush applications are made to Domainmonster.com when you checkout, if your domain then goes to auction the auctioneer will collect the end amount from the auction winner. The name will be allocated after the auctioneer has confirmed payment for the auction amount from the auction winner.
Applicants should therefore know that if a name is auctioned, they will be assessed the auction price in addition to the basic registration.
Will Landrush applications be visible in the WHOIS?
No. Landrush application records will not be visible in the WHOIS. Auction participants will not be given the identities or contact data for competing auction participants. Only awarded names will be visible in the WHOIS.
What is Open Registration?
In Open Registration, registrations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone is eligible to register names in this period.
What dispute process will be used for names registered during Landrush and Open Registration?
The Uniform Dispute Resolution Process (UDRP).
How long can I register a .me domain for?
Registrations for Landrush and Open Registrations are for a minimum of 2 years and maximum of 10 years. When your domain requires renewal the minimum registration period of 1 year and maximum of 10 years applies.
What is the .me auction process?
If there have been other applications for the .me domains that you applied for during the Landrush period, it will be entered into an auction after 26th June 2008. Only yourself and the other applicants for the domain will be able to bid on this auction. At present, the registry have set the minimum initial auction bid at $75.
To avoid rushes and ‘sniping’ at the end of auctions, the auction platform will allow for automatic extension of auction end time should activities arise near the closing of an auction. This is consistent with .Me's approach of ensuring a stable and orderly launch of the registry.
